Agricultural Land
Use Study
During the summer
of 1997, the SANT NAWQA performed an investigation of shallow ground water
in the lower Coastal Plain of the Santee River and Coastal Drainages study
unit. Thirty shallow monitoring wells were installed and water samples
were analyzed for field parameters (pH, water temperature, specific conductance,
and dissolved oxygen), organic carbon, major ions, nutrients, pesticides
(including insecticides and herbicides). Chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) were
also measured at each well to determine the corresponding age of the water
for each water-quality sample. Wells were selected based upon the amount
and type of agricultural land use surrounding the site.
