[an error occurred while processing this directive]The groundwater flow-path study was designed to track the transport of nutrients and pesticides from a corn field where they were applied, through the shallow flow system that underlies the corn field, a field of planted pines, a hay field, where additional nutrients and pesticides were applied, and the forested floodplain/wetland, to areas of discharge in Cow Castle Creek near Bowman, SC. A total of 28 multiport samplers were installed along a transect beginning at the uphill edge of the corn field and ending in the middle of the creek. Lithologic information was recorded and water samples were collected and analyzed from each sampler and from the stream. Most samples were analyzed for nutrients, pesticides, major ions, organic carbon, chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs), and dissolved gases. On-site measurements of water levels, flow directions, and field parameters also were made during each visit. (Click on an image to enlarge.)
